Associate

Location: Charlotte, NC

Experience: ~5 years of M&A / investment banking / private equity / corporate development experience

Opportunity:
The Associate is a core member of the North Inlet team, contributing to client coverage, transaction execution, and business development. The Associate’s time will be focused on providing comprehensive services to a limited number of live client engagements and will include both transaction-related and project management work. This position affords significant runway to growth and a high performer will have the opportunity for rapid progression in seniority.

This is a unique opportunity that differentiates itself from both typical sell-side investment banking positions and internal corporate development positions. Much like an internal corporate development position, the nature of the role is situation dependent and often requires strategic perspective as to what is best for a client over time. However, multiple client engagements expand the variety and composition of the workload while increasing the likelihood of transactional experience. Our boutique size results in the Associate having a direct and meaningful impact on firm performance in a sector with significant opportunity in the middle market and constant interaction with the firm’s partners. As a firm, we also aim to balance our personal and professional lives in a manner that is both sustainable and fulfilling for all.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Drive client relationship management throughout the life of an engagement, including regular travel and client interface
  • Effectively manage client pipelines, including research, target outreach and development, and transaction execution
  • Design, structure and carry out due diligence analyses, including industry research, market and competitive assessments, transaction related modeling, and analysis of company financials and operational data
  • Prepare, review and summarize valuation and other financial and strategic analyses of prospective acquisition targets
  • Participate as a point of contact in meetings with management teams, C-suite level leadership and financial intermediaries
  • Manage and mentor junior staff on multiple simultaneous project efforts
  • Involvement in range of firm-building activities including business development and origination efforts, recruiting and training
  • Provide exemplary service to our clients and represent North Inlet’s values

Characteristics of a successful candidate:

  • Industry experience in food, forestry & agribusiness preferable, but not required
  • History of success in developing and managing M&A processes from strategy development through transaction execution
  • Advanced written and spoken communication skills with a proven ability to build and sustain relationships both internally and externally
  • Desire and ability to travel for business development and transaction related work as needed
  • Demonstrated business acumen and flexibility; ability to quickly grasp new business concepts, transaction issues, and valuation considerations
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, responsibility, and pride in workmanship
  • Excellent MS Office suite capabilities as well as fluency with most technology service providers (CapIQ, MergerMarket, Salesforce, etc.)

The Associate position will be based at our Charlotte, NC office. Qualified candidates should submit a resume and cover letter to careers@northinletgroup.com.
